What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, a nose job, is a surgical procedure that can significantly boost self-confidence and overall satisfaction with facial appearance while improving breathing. It involves correcting the nose's shape, size, and symmetry, making it more proportionate to the rest of the face. Rhinoplasty can also rectify breathing problems caused by injury, trauma, or congenital disabilities.

The Benefits of Rhinoplasty

  • Decreasing the size of a bulbous nasal tip
  • Enhancing the size or shape of the nose
  • Fixing a crooked nose
  • Improving or restoring breathing caused by trauma or congenital disability
  • Reducing the length of an over-protruding nasal tip
  • Restoring symmetry to the nose
  • Repairing damage caused by an injury
  • Slimming down a wide nose
  • Smoothing out bumps on the bridge of the nose

Is Rhinoplasty for You?

Rhinoplasty is typically performed on individuals at least 18 years old, as the nose is still developing before that age. Other considerations include:

  • Being in good overall health before undergoing any surgery, including rhinoplasty
  • Ensuring your nose is fully developed and stable before undergoing the procedure
  • If you have breathing problems, such as a deviated septum, rhinoplasty may be able to improve your breathing in addition to altering the appearance of your nose

How it Works

Your Athēnix Scottsdale surgeon will make incisions across the base of the nose or inside the nostrils to access the underlying bone and cartilage. They will then use specialized surgical instruments to reshape the tissue to achieve the desired shape and size. Additional cartilage or tissue may be added to enhance the structure of the nose. Once the reshaping is complete, the incisions are closed, and a splint or cast is placed on the nose to aid in proper healing.

The Open Technique

A minor external incision is created beneath the nose. This open technique is preferred for specific noses and nasal shaping techniques. The incision for an open rhinoplasty heals very well and becomes less visible over time.

The Closed (Endonasal) Technique

An incision is made on the inside of the nose, where the nasal bones and cartilage are shaped to achieve the desired shape. Closed rhinoplasty in Scottsdale leaves no visible scars. This procedure utilizes specialized minimally invasive telescopes to allow for precise nasal shaping. Healing is faster with a closed rhinoplasty since there is no incision on the skin.

Your Recovery Process

Following your rhinoplasty procedure, our team will provide diligent post-operative care to ensure your proper healing. You will receive prescribed pain management medication, emphasizing rest and minimal physical activity. Initial swelling and bruising are expected but will gradually diminish. Most individuals can resume their regular activities within a few weeks, while complete recovery generally occurs around eight weeks post-surgery.

Transformative Results

Rhinoplasty can deliver transformative results, enhancing the shape and size of the nose to improve facial harmony and breathing. While some scarring may be present, it will typically fade over time and become less noticeable. The final results of rhinoplasty can take several months to develop fully. Still, most patients will see a noticeable improvement in the appearance of their nose within a few weeks of the procedure.
