What to Expect After Brazilian Butt Lift
The first step in understanding what to expect after Brazilian butt lift is to understand the process itself. A Brazilian butt lift is a popular procedure that allows you to have a more shapely butt without having butt implants. We perform this procedure by taking unwanted fat from another area of your body and injecting that fat carefully into the buttocks to form a round lifted shape.
There are several advantages to a Brazilian butt lift including:
- No foreign object is placed in your body, so you do not have to worry about an allergic reaction or rejection by the body
- Performed by injection, so there are no scars from incisions. After healing, the marks where the injections were done are virtually invisible.
- Slimming of your chosen area such as the hips or abdomen, since we will take fat away from this area to implant into the butt.
- Minimally invasive, which results in less downtime and an easier Brazilian butt lift recovery for most patients.

Expectations for Resuming Activities after a Brazilian Butt Lift
When can I walk after a Brazilian butt lift?
We’ll have you do a very small amount of walking as soon as possible after your procedure. Then, after a few more days, you should be able to move around more easily. Walking is helpful to the healing process, and we encourage it after almost any surgery. Remember to move slowly at first and build up your movement gradually. You also may have some soreness from the areas we liposuction, which can limit walking after a Brazilian butt lift. Movement like walking has been shown to help your body heal, especially because of the improved blood circulation. It also reduces your risk of forming dangerous blood clots and DVT.
When can I exercise after a Brazilian butt lift?
You can slowly return to your normal exercise regimen after a Brazilian butt lift, but in most cases, we will recommend that you wait about 3 months before you are doing particularly strenuous exercise. Because the Brazilian butt lift is done with a fat graft, it is important to allow the fat to take shape and to heal in the right place. Strenuous exercise can get in the way of this healing process. After several months, there are generally no restrictions on your exercise.
When can I expect to return to work after a Brazilian butt lift?
Depending on what kind of job you have, you should plan to take 1 to several weeks off of work. Remember, an important component to your Brazilian butt lift healing well and maintaining the shape you want is to avoid sitting on your butt as much as possible. If your job requires you to sit at a desk all day, going back to work too soon can impede your results. There are pillows that some patients purchase, which allow them to sit with the pressure on their thighs instead of their butt. This may help you resume sitting activities more quickly, for short periods of time.
What will I need to avoid while healing from a Brazilian butt lift?
Right after a Brazilian butt lift, you’ll want to avoid sitting flat on your butt as much as possible. You should also avoid sleeping on your back. Both sitting on your butt and sleeping on your back can flatten the fat that’s implanted and can alter your results. After you heal, you will be able to sit or sleep as you want.
Should I expect to wear a compression garment after a Brazilian butt lift?
Yes, in many cases, we will recommend that you wear a compression or shaping garment after a Brazilian butt lift. This is an important step in helping the transferred fat to heal in the desired shape. In some cases, you will receive a more structured compression garment for the initial phase of healing, and then a different one as your recovery progresses. With fat grafting procedures, we do not want the garment to be overly tight. It should be snug but not so tight that it flattens the shape we have created during your procedure. We also sometimes recommend compression garments for the areas that have had liposuction as part of the Brazilian butt lift procedure. In these areas, the compression can reduce swelling, reduce pain, and promote healing.
What can I expect after a Brazilian butt lift in terms of seeing my final results?
Right after your Brazilian butt lift, it is important to expect that the size you’re seeing is not your final result. There are two primary reasons your final results will be somewhat smaller. First of all, immediately after your procedure, there will be swelling. As the swelling goes down, the size of your butt will as well. In the second phase of healing, it is normal that your body will absorb a certain percent of the fat that we have transferred to your butt. We account for this expected fat loss, and generally implant somewhat more fat than we expect you will need for the desired final result. After 3 - 6 months, most patients can see a shape that is close to their final results.
